Goals

  • Deliver an unofficial expansion pack of top quality and bring back more of the traits that made doom a milestone game There is, on the team, an undeniable passion for the base of our mod, Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil, but it doesn't stop there. Doom and Doom2 were games that had an amazing impact on our lives. Id software did a good job of bringing back Doom to life, but we want to take it further. Some of the traits that made Doom and Doom2 the milestone games they were are missing from the new Doom. We are bringing back more of the color and feel of the originals.
  • Combine the Doom experience with Team Future’s vision of future first person shooter gaming We love Doom, but even Doom needs to evolve if it is to succeed. We are flavouring Doom 3: Phobos with new aspects that will push the story and atmosphere into a new direction. We have taken inspiration from games such as Jedi Knight in terms of level design and progression. We feel that environmental puzzles and vertical level design is due for a comeback.
  • Expand and enrich the story of Doom 3, introducing new characters and a new faction With a clear focus on characters and environmental context, we are taking Doom storytelling to a new level. In Doom 3: Phobos, the player will early on encounter the Federal Commonwealth of Earth, the FCE. They are a power-grabbing organization with unclear motives. Getting in their way will have grave consequences and throw a new faction into the mix. Demons aren't your only enemy.

Episodes

  • Three chapters taking you from Mars through a familiar location and ending in the worst place imaginable. One thing that has been missing is the clear-cut milestone episodic structure. In Doom 1 there were three very distinct episodes that took place on Phobos, Deimos and in Hell. The first episode was all about technological bases while episode two had a lot of abstraction and hellish influences. Episode three was pure hell. This is the return of episodes that clearly divide the story and progress into three chapters.
  • 24 original levels Doom 3: Phobos will feature 8 maps per episode. Each level is receiving special care that will ensure more interesting play and progression than the standard corridor shooter. We feel that problems should rarely have only one solution. Alternative options should be available, but not directly presented. It's not about finding the access code (A), blowing the door up (B) or crawling through the nearby vent (C), it's about getting into the room. We will let you find ABC.
  • Very rich variation in environments Doom 3: Phobos sports every type of location you saw in Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil plus several new. This time around there are less hallways and more functional rooms.

Storytelling

  • Ties in with Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil expansion pack The story takes off just after Doom3 when the fleet arrives on Mars.
  • Includes deep characters through whom the story is told Several new characters will highlight and propel the story in an exciting direction that will bring more depth to the Doom universe.
  • An epic clash between the fleet, the FCE and the hellish demons Experience multi-faction action while trying to stay on the right side of the struggle.
  • Dynamic story presentation The story presentation will follow the player’s tempo. It will not be force fed by spoon to the player. The more you want to explore, the more you get to see. The less you want to see of the story, the less will be found.
  • Follows a new main character The player will be part of the fleet that arrives on Mars.

Sounds

  • Updated and enriched sound library for weapons and monsters Some of the weapons have been upgraded by the UAC. One of the side-effects from this is a slightly updated sound feedback. The monsters have been given more unique sounds as well as more variations on the same themes. All this while staying true to Doom3 and not going overboard.
  • Rich score Music is back. Doom 3: Phobos features the right music for the right situation, leaving behind the 100% ambience ideal and short of embracing the full track solution of older games.

Weapons

  • Return of the chainsaw and grabber Give the opposition a hard time up close and from a distance. The grabber has an important, yet delicate and unspoken role in Doom3: Phobos.
  • A new medium-range combat shotgun used by the Federal Commonwealth of Earth Experience a different kind of combat shotgun. Picking off imps and zombies from a distance is now possible.
  • Updated weaponry The UAC has updated some of the weaponry available for the security team. Among others: Pistol, machine gun, chain gun and plasma gun.

Enemies

  • A new faction – The Federal Commonwealth of Earth Combat top trained soldiers of different classes and purposes.
  • Return of classic monsters previously conceived by id Arachnotron, Pain Elemental and other classic monsters make a surprising and epic reintroduction in the Doom series. Wonder where forgotten souls come from? Here's your answer.
  • The Bereft Soul This creature belongs in the same family as the Lost soul and the Forgotten soul. Their cousin is an explosive presence.
  • And other new hellish creations new and old!
